Glowing Skin : The Secret To Healthy, Glowing Skin May Not Be On Your Dresser

In the journey to achieve healthy skin that glows from within, many spend thousands on creams, bottles and tubes of various beauty potions to wipe away their skin problems like pimples, wrinkles and dark circles. While effective skincare definitely does work wonders, it doesn’t happen alone. Your skin being the largest organ of your body, it directly reflects the way you treat yourself. So if you’ve been staying up in the wee hours and grabbing pizza every other night, don’t expect skincare products to be a magic wand. Along with it, the right lifestyle habits are the real secret to help you achieve glowing skin. And no, you won’t find those on your dresser.

1. Eat Right

Add skin-friendly foods to your diet like almonds as they contain healthy fats and vitamin E which have been shown to impart anti-aging properties that may benefit skin health. Researchers at the University of California found that the addition of almonds as a part of your beauty routine helps to reduce skin wrinkles. Leafy greens, fish, eggs, fruits and avocados are also great to nourish and clear toxins from within.

Drink approximately 8 glasses of water daily to keep your body (and thus, skin) sufficiently hydrated. Vegetables like cucumber, snake gourd, ridge gourd and tomatoes have high water content, which are a great diet addition. Include beverages such as herbal teas, coconut water, buttermilk and fresh lime juice to your daily routine for healthier skin.

3. Curb Stress

Stress increases cortisol levels which reduces the skin’s ability to hold. There are several ways to maintain a calm mind such as practicing yogasanas or meditating for about 15 minutes every day. Ideally, add this to your morning routine before you begin your day and in the long run, watch for yourself the impact it has on clearing the skin.

4. Get Sweaty

Any form of exercise is good for overall health and your skin. Working out regularly accelerates the cleansing process of your body. For many, accommodating a regular fitness regime in their busy lifestyle might seem tough between work and social activities. However if you stick with it and find time to work out even for 30 minutes daily, it will be a habit you look forward to.

5. Quit It

Smoking accelerates the normal process of aging and causes unfavorable skin changes. Skin damage is irreversible and it is important to take steps to prevent premature wrinkles by first stopping it.
