The deceased, a Shujalpur resident, was admitted to a private hospital in Bhopal after he suffered a paralytic attack earlier in April. He later tested positive for coronavirus on April 14 following which he was shifted to Chirayu Hospital, Madhya Pradesh government’s designated corona isolation facility, where he passed away on April 20.
Officials said, family members of the man, his wife, son, and brother-in-law, reached Bhopal and were told that cremation would have to be done in Bhopal with full precautions. They, then, refused to accept the body.
According to Bhopal district administration, PPE kits were also made available to the family, but they refused to cremate. “When told that doctors and nurses who were attending their family members were also human beings, they asked the authorities to perform the last rites,” an official said.
